Elastomeric materials are generally utilised for their performance in a particular application rather than for their aesthetic purposes.   Rubber components are often the critical parts in highly demanding engineeering applications.  Consequently they are required to deliver reliable performance and long service, often in challenging environments.

However, all too often the elastomeric components of a system are treated as a commodity item and are overlooked until they fail, when their critical importance is finally realised.

Given the key function that elastomeric components often perform in highly demanding engineering applications, it is critical that designers and engineers understand what can cause elastomeric materials to fail, the likelihood of failure and the limitations in their properties.

This web seminar will give participants an understanding of the considerations which should be applied when engineering rubber components in order to avoid elastomeric product failure.

Who will benefit from this web seminar:

  • Engineers responsible for product development and/or material selection of rubber products or rubber components
  • personnel responsible for specification of rubber components within end-use applications
  • Quality Assurance and Technical Service personnel

Benefits of participation:

  • avoid product failure in future by understanding the possibilities for failure
  • avoid the costs associated with product failure
  • avoid loss of reputation
  • avoid expensive litigation costs

Content

The web seminar will discuss the considerations relating to:  material selection, specification, product design, processing technology and the service related situations which may apply and which must be considered at the earliest stages of product development.

Presenter:

Gary Crutchley, Principal Consultant, Smithers Rapra
